ADOPTING THE FACILITATOR ROLE.

The YOUTHOOD Project positions itself as a strategy adviser and a facilitator connecting youth services, professionals, schools, and young people to foster more potent, more effective youth development approaches. YOUTHOOD is not designed to replace existing youth services, such as educational institutions, youth clubs, or mentoring programs. Instead, we intend to enhance the effectiveness of these services by offering strategic advice, fresh frameworks, and collaborative solutions aimed at addressing service gaps and adapting to the evolving needs of adolescents today.

Promoting A Holistic & Multisectoral Approach

YOUTHOOD’s role is to act as the catalyst that brings together local services, schools, professionals, and youth. This involves coordinating efforts across different sectors and helping these stakeholders work cohesively towards shared goals. By adopting a facilitator approach, YOUTHOOD looks to bridge communication gaps between organisations and services that may otherwise work in isolation.

— Connecting Services

YOUTHOOD is complementary to existing youth services rather than a competitor. It recognises that youth services—whether schools, community organisations, or enrichment providers—already play critical roles in adolescent development. YOUTHOOD aims to enhance the roles of these services by providing a space to discuss how they can better meet the needs of today’s younger generation.

Driving Change Through Grassroots Partnerships and Nationwide Campaigns

Grassroots Partnerships

Youth development varies by demographic and location, so our Grassroots Partnership aims to foster city or county-level collaboration with local authorities, schools, businesses, and youth services to create tailored strategies that address region-specific challenges and empower communities.

  • Bringing relevance to strategy requires ongoing dialogue between youth-facing organisations, local bodies, community leaders, and young people. Through the partnership, YOUTHOOD looks to foster collaboration by hosting regular panel discussions and focus groups to explore expectations, interests, and ideas on regional youth development.

  • By building a broad partnership of youth-facing services, professionals, education providers, and businesses, we aim to create the ultimate space for networking. We believe in the power of community collaboration, and the possibilities are limitless through this network. Schools can enhance student experience by connecting with skills and enrichment providers, while professionals can share resources and opportunities directly.

  • Through our partnerships, YOUTHOOD aims to host events throughout the year to expand adolescents’ exposure to careers, societal issues, and life skills. In addition to running our events with regional partners, we’ll bring impactful initiatives from organisations across the UK and beyond to benefit local youth and youth-facing professionals.

Nationwide Initiatives

While YOUTHOOD is deeply committed to fostering collaboration for localised change, we intend to lead bold, nationwide initiatives to address critical youth development challenges. We’re focused on expanding access to careers and post-18 opportunities and transforming the school experience by placing creativity, belonging, safety, and identity at the heart of school communities. To ensure quality and effectiveness in our work, we’re dedicating our efforts to three flagship initiatives - yet to reveal our third. These will empower young people across the country, shape our local partnerships, and hopefully inform national youth and education policy. Read more in the Initiatives Hub.

  • The Katalyst Digital Platform is a campaign aimed at connecting youth with career guidance, mentoring, and decision-making panels, helping to strengthen access to opportunities across all regions. It also looks at how providing a youth-friendly networking tool could help improve accessibility to professional contacts. We’re proud to have an extensive research sample that has guided the design and framework of this platform but are keen to see how partnership could help us make it happen.

  • The Schools Enrichment Programme is YOUTHOOD’s flagship 3-year initiative designed to transform secondary schools by fostering a community-focused approach to education. The programme intends to equip schools with strategic frameworks to enhance extracurricular opportunities, essential literacy skills, and personal exploration. With a focus on improving well-being, stakeholder satisfaction, and student engagement and attainment, this initiative aims to create a more enriching, student-centred experience that nurtures holistic growth and empowers young people to thrive in and beyond the classroom.
