Holistic focus for holistic growth.

The Schools Strategy Programme.

YOUTHOOD aims to play a vital role in providing strategic advice to secondary schools and colleges, helping to enhance the variety and quality of extracurricular opportunities available to students.

We look to do this through The Schools Strategy Programme, a 3-year scheme focussed on working with all key members of the school community to embed a sense of belonging, creativity, vision and identity into the school environment and curriculum.

This programme involves exploring development models and equipping schools with frameworks to integrate essential literacy skills as well as boost academic engagement and personal exploration.

This approach naturally inspires schools to move beyond isolated, rigid and, currently, heavily academic-centred methods and embrace broader, student-focused strategies. As a result, creating a more enriching and engaging school experience for youth.

Our programme aims to help schools improve in four key areas: wellbeing, stakeholder satisfaction, and student engagement and attainment rates. This initiative is critical to YOUTHOOD’s mission, ensuring that schools focus on nurturing young adults’ holistic growth.

We advocate for schools to examine how they can improve student experience, engagement, and enrichment by fostering a community-focused approach to school life. While we support reforms to the academic curriculum, our primary focus is on how high-quality extracurricular opportunities can boost student engagement in the classroom. To support this, YOUTHOOD has developed four adaptable schemes to lay the foundation for a well-rounded school experience:

  • Talent Exploration:

The SAMS Award Scheme is a two-year program designed to help students discover and nurture their talents and passions early on, by getting involved in a variety of activities. Targeting Year 7-8 students, the scheme is structured into four modules: Social Participation (volunteering and community involvement), Active Participation (sports and fitness), Mindful Participation (academic clubs and mind sports), and Skills Participation (creative and personal development activities).

  • Creative Exploration:

The Creative Student Scheme is a Year 9 co-curricular program designed to foster students' creativity in both writing and presenting. This scheme is focused on encouraging students to explore their ideas, self-expression, and storytelling through a combination of written and visual presentation. It looks to encourage the exploration of creative writing and topics of interest, boosting confidence in self-expression and speaking in front of peers.

  • Critical Exploration:

The Critical Student Scheme is a two-year programme for Yr10-11s, focussing on critical thinking, debate, and the ability to balance and evaluate different viewpoints. It is structured to help students refine their argumentation, analytical thinking, and ability to engage in complex discussions. Through the exploration of social issues, writing skills and reflective thought-processing, it aims to build confidence around public speaking, perspective-taking and the understanding of key social topics.

  • Literacy Exploration:

The Literacy Meter is a comprehensive framework designed to equip sixth form students with the critical skills and knowledge needed for life beyond school. It focuses on key areas such as Career, Financial, Digital, Civic, and Emotional Literacy. By integrating these elements into PSHE, it aims to help students make informed decisions about their future careers, manage finances responsibly, navigate the digital world and develop emotional resilience - essential post-18 life skills.
